Inspired by the 1960s SG Special, the Gibson SG Classic Electric Guitar with P-90 Pickups re-creates the look and sound of the most influential guitar in both Britain and the U.S. during the psychedelic era. It has the original all-mahogany body, dual P-90 pickups, and a bound rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays.

A Little SG History

In 1961, the Les Paul was redesigned with a thinner body and 2 sharp cutaway horns that making the upper frets more accessible while lowering production costs. The new guitar was popular, but Les Paul the guitarist did not like it and asked to have his name removed. Gibson renamed the model the “SG” which was short for “solid guitar”. Though Les Paul’s name was officially removed from the model in 1961, the plastic Les Paul nameplates (positioned between the rhythm pickup and fingerboard) were in abundance in the Gibson factory and SG models having these nameplates were built and sold by Gibson up to end of 1963. SGs have been the choice of world-class artists such as Pete Townsend, Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi, and Angus Young.

The Epiphone Les Paul Traditional Pro electric guitar combines the best of Les Paul’s original design with new features that set this Epiphone guitar apart.

Professional Electronics.

In the neck position is the Alnico Classic Pro humbucker with Alnico-II warm, thick vintage tone and open zebra coils. It’s uniquely paired with Epiphone’s ProBucker-3 humbucker. An inspired by version of Gibson’s BurstBucker-3, the Les Paul guitar features unevenly wound coils and Alnico-II magnets that replicate that “Patent Applied for” airy tone. You’ll love the way they sound! To top it all off, both volume controls feature push/pull potentiometers allowing you to coil-split each pickup for single-coil sounds. Epiphone Limited-Edition 50th Anniversary 1960 Les Paul Version 3 Electric Guitar Heritage DarkburstToday’s featured guitar is the Epiphone Limited-Edition 50th Anniversary 1960 Les Paul Version 3 Electric Guitar Heritage Darkburst. Below is the complete description of the guitar.

This Limited-Edition 50th Anniversary Les Paul Electric Guitar from Epiphone offers you an affordable re-creation of the treasured 1960 carved top guitar with a glorious Heritage Darkburst or Cherry Sunburst finish. You get all the benefits of a new guitar, with all the mojo of a vintage Les Paul. Each guitar comes with a stamped serial number, a numbered certificate of authenticity, and an Epiphone hardshell case.

The 1960 Gibson Les Paul has achieved such heights on the collector’s market that it is unattainable to all but the most affluent investors. The Epiphone Limited-Edition 50th Anniversary Les Paul harks back to 1960, with its carved maple top, powerful PAF-style Gibson USA BurstBucker humbucking pickups, versatile Tune-O-Matic bridge, and super-comfortable, hyper-fast long tenon neck with SlimTaper ’60s-style “D” profile.

Body
The body is carved from solid mahogany with a carved cap and grade-AAA flame maple veneer. The maple-mahogany wood combination, one of the most legendary pairs in the history of the solid and semi-solid electric guitar, yields a “best of both worlds” tonal splendor that couples warmth and definition, while also producing a classic look and a sturdy instrument. The Ltd Edition 50th Anniversary 1960 Les Paul Standard’s body woods present a tonal marriage made in heaven, offering a combination of good clarity, definition and treble bite from the maple, and excellent depth and richness from the mahogany, with punchy mids and warm lows, all of which are elements that are found in the classic Les Paul Standard tone.

BurstBucker
Gibson U.S.A. BurstBucker™ humbuckers. BurstBuckers™ replicate the sound of Gibson’s original “Patent Applied For” pickups—the pickups that gave the ’59-’60 Les Paul Standards their legendary sound. Made like the originals, with unpolished magnets and non-potted coils, they include variations in pickup output and tone thanks to magical inconsistencies in winding the bobbins, a result of the lack of automatic shutoffs on Gibson’s winding machines in the late 1950s.

Seth Lover, who invented the humbucker, always said they wound the bobbins “until they were full.” When two coils in a pickup have a different number of turns, that variation puts a little “edge” or “bite” on the classic humbucker sound. The neck pickup is a BurstBucker-1 and is slightly under-wound for a “medium” vintage output. The bridge pickup is a Burstbucker-2 that is wound in the range of a slightly hotter vintage PAF, and which works well in combination with the BB-1 in the neck.

Bridge
The Ltd Edition 50th Anniversary 1960 Les Paul Standard carries Epiphone’s LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge. This legendary bridge provides a firm seating for the strings, allowing the player to adjust and fine-tune the intonation and string height in a matter of minutes. It also yields excelle
