What do Pete Townshend, Carlos Santana, and Tony Iommi all have in common? Back in the ’60s, each of these legendary guitarists played a Gibson SG Special with P-90 pickupsand made music history in the process. To bring this beloved rocker back to guitarists in the 21st century, Gibson USA introduces the SG Special ’60s Tribute, a guitar that honors the beloved SG Specials of nearly 50 years ago, in an instrument primed with the tone, versatility, and playability demanded by modern musicians.

Since its arrival on the scene in 1961 (originally as the Les Paul/SG Special), Gibson’s dual-horned, double-cutaway SG has been an iconic rock axe, and has become known for solid performance and tonal versatility that is unparalleled in the guitar world. The SG Special ’60s Tribute is based around the same revered tonewoods, glued-in neck, and Alnico-magnet P-90 pickups that made its predecessor legendary, with the same SlimTaper ’60s neck profile that is behind some of the fastest-playing guitars in history. Stripped-down and ready for business, the SG Special ’60s Tribute has the look and feel of a well-played friend right out of the gigbag, and comes in at a price that any hard working player can well and truly afford!

Gibson SG Classic Electric Guitar with P-90 Pickups Heritage CherryToday’s featured guitar is the Gibson SG Classic Electric Guitar with P-90 Pickups Heritage Cherry. Below is the complete description of the guitar.

Inspired by the 1960s SG Special, the Gibson SG Classic Electric Guitar with P-90 Pickups re-creates the look and sound of the most influential guitar in both Britain and the U.S. during the psychedelic era. It has the original all-mahogany body, dual P-90 pickups, and a bound rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays.

A Little SG History

In 1961, the Les Paul was redesigned with a thinner body and 2 sharp cutaway horns that making the upper frets more accessible while lowering production costs. The new guitar was popular, but Les Paul the guitarist did not like it and asked to have his name removed. Gibson renamed the model the “SG” which was short for “solid guitar”. Though Les Paul’s name was officially removed from the model in 1961, the plastic Les Paul nameplates (positioned between the rhythm pickup and fingerboard) were in abundance in the Gibson factory and SG models having these nameplates were built and sold by Gibson up to end of 1963. SGs have been the choice of world-class artists such as Pete Townsend, Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi, and Angus Young.

B.C. Rich ASM Pro Electric Guitar Black Cherry Burst

B.C. Rich ASM Pro Electric Guitar Black Cherry BurstToday’s featured guitar is the B.C. Rich ASM Pro Electric Guitar Black Cherry Burst. Below is the complete description of the guitar.

The B.C. Rich ASM Pro is an electric guitar with EMG pickups, a Floyd Rose Original tremolo and neck-through construction. The ASM Pro is one serious professional level guitar! Other great features include Grover tuners and an ebony fretboard.

Neck-Through Construction

B.C. Rich is known as one of the pioneers in neck through construction. They use it on many of their guitars, because it provides the best possible sustain, resonance, comfort and access to higher frets. Neck-through has long been considered the premium construction method for high-end guitars. This construction starts with a long piece (or pieces) of premium North American maple. That piece runs from the tip of the headstock to the strap button on the opposite end of the guitar. This means that the headstock, fingerboard, pickups and bridge all are mounted to this single sound foundation. Sonically it is a difference you can hear. The neck-through construction also allows more of the body and neck to be cut away at the neck joint, which provides comfort no bolt-on or set-neck could offer. You will find the neck through feature on all top of the line B.C. Rich models.

EMG-81 (bridge position)

The EMG-81 is a high output pickup designed especially for the lead guitarist. The 81 is at its best for high volume overdrive and amps with a master volume. Whether you’re playing power rock and roll, or overdriving your amp, there’s a razor sharp attack, and incredible sustain for brilliant soloing. If you’re looking for exceptional qualities in a rock pickup, the EMG-81 is the one.

EMG-85 (neck position)

Although the EMG-85 has more measurable output than the 81, its frequency response and string interface are different. The 85 uses two Alnico magnet loaded coils with a wide aperture to maintain a beefy low end and a fatter top end. Because of a more natural tone, it works great as a rhythm and blues pickup because it has loads of output but isn’t muddy.

The Assassin was introduced in 1986. It was a double cutaway that was a departure for the odd shaped models that B.C. Rich was known for up until that time. In 1986, there were other double cutaways that B.C. Rich began making with various headstocks, pickup configurations, controls and finishes. The ASM model was one of these double cutaways but was introduced much later. There was an ASM 1 and ASM 2, with slightly different shapes and point shapes, but the more pointed and sleek model eventually settled in as the standard ASM shape. The Outlaw originally had holes drilled in the upper bout, but later models were more traditional looking, they were mostly bolt on necks like most of the double cutaway B.C. Rich guitars.

Check the drop-down menu to the right to select colors and/or other options.
